“OK here’s the plan! We are trying to get thousands of people together on a beautiful spring day in April in Carytown to draw some great sidewalk art with sidewalk chalk.

We are going to give away 30,000 pieces of chalk to anyone who wants it to draw on the sidewalks in Carytown. So that means you…whomever you are…you can draw something on a square of the sidewalk in Carytown.

We will also be getting some professional artists to jump in and create some masterpieces.

It’s going to be a fun day as we make the sidewalks beautiful with the colors of spring.

Here’s what we need from you:
Invite everyone you know. Anyone within driving distance to Richmond should get an invite. Direct them here to the facebook page
. We want thousands of people to be part of this thing. This isn’t a moneymaker for anyone…its just a great day of fun for all. Let’s make it happen!

Here are a couple general Rules:
1) Only sidewalk chalk! No sidewalk paint, or spray paint, anything that doesn’t come off with water.
2) No drawing on private property, only on the sidewalk.
3) No religious, political, or drawings that could be offensive. This isn’t about someone’s individual personal beliefs about a bunch of people coming together to make something great!

If it rains–we will reschedule for the same time on May 1st.

Special thanks to the Carytown Merchants Association for donating all the chalk!

Fan Works is thrilled to begin partnering with The Wildlife Center of Virginia. The Wildlife Center is a wonderful organization acting as “a hospital for native wildlife, teaching the world to care about and to care for wildlife and the environment.”

In the Center’s own words:

“The Wildlife Center of Virginia was formed in 1982 to provide quality health care, often on an emergency basis, to native wildlife.

Since 1982, the Wildlife Center has:

  • treated more than 50,000 wild animals, representing 200 species of native birds, mammals, reptiles, and amphibians
  • shared the lessons learned from these cases with some 1.4 million school-children and adults across Virginia
  • trained a corps of wildlife medicine practitioners, including veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and volunteer wildlife rehabilitators. Those who have benefited from the professional training programs offered by the Center may now be found on the cutting-edge of wildlife veterinary medicine around the world.

In 2007, the Wildlife Center received the National Conservation Achievement Award as the Conservation Organization of the Year from the National Wildlife Federation.”

Fan Works will begin working with the Center this year on a wide range of projects helping them to get the word out on all the stellar work they do.

We’re eagerly looking forward to working with such a committed and valuable group of folks {and critters}. If you have a moment, check out their site and learn about who they are, news and events from the Center, and how you can help.
